“Party Pooper,” the Raw Tapes debut from Shir Frum, began with a spark. Shir had been writing songs for years different styles, different vibes. But when her partner heard her strumming “If You Don’t Ask” in bed one night, he knew she’d landed on something magical. Living in a rural town outside Tel Aviv, the couple laid down the sweeping, sweet song the next day inside a shipping container they’d converted to a recording studio next to their home. “I cried in euphoria, hearing what we’d made,” Shir says. The seed of “Party Pooper” had been planted, and in the months that followed Shir’s notebooks filled up with her “elegant indie” songs heavy emotions but playful melodies, classical guitar and a drum machine, light touches of piano and Shir’s multiple, beautiful voices. Totally self-recorded inside their shipping container studio over the next two years, “Party Pooper” is the sound of a lifelong searcher joyously finding her sound and creating music that is completely, effortlessly her.
