“Danas je u Hrvatskoj hrabro snimiti ovakav album”, stoji u knjižici uz izdanje pod nazivom “Jazz Street” koje je objavio Anton Glasnović Trio. Pri tome se misli da je album snimljen “straight-ahead” jazz usmjerenja, no, kaže Anton Glasnović, samo su svirali i pustili da se stvari događaju. Album je prije svega hommage njegovog prvom učitelju jazza Damiru Dičiću, ali je u njega uloženo sve što svaki glazbenik iz trija ima za pokazati. Osim Antona na električnoj gitari u triju su Nenad Jura Vrandečić na kontrabasu i Berislav Puhlovski na bubnjevima, dok im se kao gost pridružio i Saša Nestorović na saksofonu. Svirali su većinom Dičićeve skladbe, ali i skladbe drugih autora Antonija Carlosa Jobima, Waynea Kinga, Victora Younga i Egberta Van Alstynea te Harolda Arlena i Georgea Gershwina. Sveukupno 9 briljantnih i virtuoznih izvedbi koje neće nikoga ostaviti ravnodušnim. “Bez obzira na činjenicu da se umjetnost i glazba mijenjaju iz godine u godinu, ovakva se vrsta jazza, “straight-ahead” jazz, izvodi i izvodit će se nepromijenjena u svakom kutku svijeta. The aspirations in today's jazz music are almost entirely oriented towards the author's expression, rejecting the so-called tradition and finding some intimate feelings that lurk latently in the individual and manifest through original music. This is a paradigm that is so dominant that, as a musician, I have met several times with colleagues who, fully dedicated to the said author's expression, simply do not know standard jazz material and as such are hardly 'usable' at a jam session. The aspirations in today's jazz music are almost entirely oriented towards the author's expression Zagreb-based polymath Anton Glasnović , for whom, in addition to a successful career in medicine, playing jazz guitar takes a secondary, if not tertiary, place, he and his trio recently released just such an album for Croatia Records - unpretentious, firmly entrenched in the more classical part of the jazz canon, but still uncompromising. . For this occasion, Glasnović surrounded himself with a seasoned and proven rhythm section - on double bass is Nenad Jura Vrandečić, known to the audience as one of the founders of Zagreb Jazz Portrait , an ensemble with decades of tradition, while the drums are played by Croatian expatriate Berislav Puhlovski, who has been living and working in USA. More than once, he had the need to place his work and the concept of this album almost pejoratively in the drawer of straight ahead jazz, which at times sounds apologetic (and there is no need for that) - why would a musician whose focus is on the interpretation of jazz standards and whose artistic worldviews are camped in an idiom that is not considered "modern" today, did anyone "account" for it? What was Jarrett's colossal Standards Trio playing ? What is even modern today, if The Shape of Jazz to Come was released 63 years ago?! For example, the representatives of gypsy jazz, as a European subgenre of jazz, sovereignly move forward playing and recording music that, starting from and firmly sticking to the tradition of the mid-1930s, is extremely anachronistic - no one calls them out for that, and why should they? For years, the great Wynton Marsalis has been directed towards an expression that is even older than the above, but few question its significance because of that. The only thing that really matters, in the humble opinion of this author, is that the music is sincere and unadulterated, and the path leading to that is divergent for every true artist.
Jazz Street Jazz Streetconsists of nine relatively short tracks (the album lasts just over 30 minutes), equally divided into older jazz standards and compositions by the great Croatian guitarist Damir Dičić, also Glasnović's first mentor. Dičić's original Hot Line also opens this album, and it is a simple two-part composition with a charming melody and a harmonic skeleton that irresistibly reminds one of Cole Porter's most beautiful works, You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To , since the tonality is the same). Vrandečić's arco solo on the double bass is striking (also the first solo the listener will hear), while Glasnović shows a good command of the bop language and reveals some of his influences through his playing - everyone's ear will tremble at the sound of some phrases characteristic of the great Joe Pass.
