Alex Rodríguez (guitar, bass, composer) is one of the most important jazz guitarists in Venezuela in the seventies. Born in 1952, he began his musical studies at an early age and is part of several rock groups, as well as having the opportunity to integrate prestigious musical projects such as the Onda Nueva Orchestra of Maestro Aldemaro Romero. It creates a group of short life but that has been considered like reference within the musical history Venezuelan: The Retreta Mayor and leaves the album La Retreta Mayor (1976).
After that debut, La Retreta Mayor is separated without making live presentations, but Alex Rodríguez continues his musical career with the publication of the album Búsqueda (1978), where he reaffirms himself as one of the most important exponents of jazz of the time . However, his record legacy within the jazz world would be limited to those two albums.
Later his musical career is oriented towards the classical guitar, both at the level of composition and performer. Paralelamente develops a great work as teacher of both classic guitar and electric bass. His album Búsqueda (1978) is re-released in CD format in Japan in the year 2012 which shows the importance of his career within the world of jazz……~
Extremely rare Venezuelan fusion album privately pressed by Alex Rodriguez himself featuring fellow Argentinian Jorge Dalto & Stanley Banks (both probably moonlighting from George Benson’s band of the time) . Top draw set with all tracks written by Alex Rodriguez (bar one) headlined by the banging “El Mercado”.
Alex Rodriguez is one of Venezuela’s most important Jazz guitarrists from the 70’s. Born in 1952, He starts his musical education froom a young age and forms part of many rock bad, also part of Aldemaro Moreno’s Orquesta de Onda Nueva. In 1976 he founds a shortlived band called La Retreta Mayor than serves as a benchmark for excellence back in his home countrym, they never play live but leave one hell of an selftitled album.
After the breakup of La Retreta Mayor, Alex records this album, where he reinstates his position as one of the most important jazz musicians in Venezuela. Sadly enough these two albums would be the only Jazz offerings in his ouvre. After 1979 his musical career would steer more and more towards the classical guitar, not only as a performer, but also as a composer. At the same time he becomes one of the most respected teachers of Classical guitar and electric bass guitar in his home country……~
