In ancient Greece birth was a sign of gods. Freaks looked alike the gods and the gods looked alike the freaks.
2000 years later monstrosity is a hidden act: eliminated and not visible anymore, it is a fruit not able to survive. The holy thrill of horror created the myths of the gods. Today there are no gods anymore, they are victims of modern society: the ancient horror is transformed to the secret state of daily life. Recorded at the Rote Flora/Hamburg and at Wachsender Prozess. Thanks: Peter Kastner, Slavek Kwi and Dmitry Vasilyev The Russian label Monochrome Vision brings since 2004 music from classics of experimental electronic music world, such as Le Syndicat, Francisco Lopez, Asmus Titchens, Freiband and Arcane Device. TBC and Coloured Water Well take care of the last two releases. TBC is a project of the German Thomas Beck. Since the 80s he has been active and started in the tape and international mail art network. He made radio, runs a DIY label, created a meeting for musicians and mail-music projects with Brume, and Das Synthetic Mischgewebe. And for now he releases his first full-length solo album. In four songs he takes us in his electronic world where minimal noise slowly changed into a white noise. In that the sound does not change, but due to the slow development. By the subtlety of the noise, which originates by sounds of nature and by samplers and synthesizers, the noise is not overwhelming. The Birth of God: Insecta is a wonderful album and an ode to the noise that nature knows it. - Jan-Kees Helms, Vital Weekly TBC disc Insecta: The Birth of Gods was lying by the player for a couple of months. I've been spinning it from time to time and lacking suitable words to describe it, delayed reviewing it. TBC - project of Thomas Beck, German who has been active in the weirder parts of music for around 30 years. Collaboration with Felix Kubin who played recently in Lithuania and was praised by almost every person who has been in the gig, caught my eye. TBC created radio show and also released music magazine together with him. Unlike Felix Kubin's stuff, not everything is so full of joy and seemingly careless in this CD. Meditation on modern mythology, where Gods have become victims of contemporary civilization. They were blended with everyday life and its horrors, but still living side by side, barely visible. Interesting concept and despite quite frequent critique of modernity, noticeable in industrial culture, TBC takes a different and original angle on it. Musically this disc, in my opinion, fully meets written concept - cold and oppressive minimalism. 80 minutes, divided into four parts of sterile nihilism. Tracks are long and the last one reaches beyond half an hour so it seems that the author is excessively enjoying each and every sound without entering straightforward monotony. It is impossible to determine where sounds develop since it just changes and that's it. Though you can hear that it is not just messing around with some equipment in pointless experiments that can be heard quite often in so called minimalistic tracks. You can feel the hand of professional leading the sound towards the goal that only he knows, combining field recordings with minimal synth sound touches. Though separate tracks are defined in time, but it is trivial and all these 80 minutes are one long composition because logically sounds, their development and continuum exceed pauses between songs. I can imagine such music being played in contemporary art centers so rarely visited by ancient gods - they are drunk, wandering around in the forests. This CD is most likely one of such works where concept and keeping up to it is more important than any other component parts of the release. And the essence of this disc hides in those small details that you won't hear if you listen to it only half an ear. You need to listen and live with it. Perhaps the word "subtle" would suit well here. I couldn't say this release is of my taste and it is not clear why the first full length came out only after 15 years of TBC activity. Томас Бек занимается музыкой с начала 80-х - сначала под именем H 6 4, находясь под влиянием эстетики дадаизма и футуризма, он стал частью кассетной сети и основал лэйблы DDT-Tapes и EX, а также журнал "Magazine". Затем он открыл для себя возможности натуральных звуковых феноменов, их признаки и структуру. В 1991 году он сменил псевдоним на tbc и вместе с Y-Ton-G и Мальте Штайнером открыл клуб "Hör-Bar" с целью создать пространство для обмена музыкальными идеями и возможности общения между музыкантами со всего мира. В 1992 году Томас открыл новый лэйбл Wachsender Prozess для издания своих и чужих шумовых произведений, он существует до сих пор. Вместе с Гюнтером Резничком (Nova Huta) и Феликсом Кнотом (Felix Kubin, Klangkrieg) он основал журнал "Odradek", посвящённый электронной и электроакустической музыке, параллельно занимаясь радиопрограммой Radio Gagarin на гамбургской станции FSK. Его прочие проекты довольно разнообразны - короткометражные фильмы, диджейство, перформансы с импровизационной группой Six and More, коллаборации с Яном Иверсом (No) под именем Freie Hand, а также с Гаем Салдана, Хайнером Метцгером, Brume, Artificial Memory Trace и Das Synthetische Mischgewebe.
