Каждый день шоу уложился в 3 СД, а на четвёртый вошли "intermission" записи — музыкального проекта Circles Around The Sun, созданного Нилом Касалом специально для того, чтобы заполнять перерывы в шоу музыкой Grateful Dead, когда сами музыканты группы отдыхают. Получилось вполне достойно.
В раздачу входят сканы книжки, в которой находятся диски, и 40-страничного буклета. По просьбе добряков с оппортунистически медленным интернетом не стал запаковывать сканы в каждый контейнер, а выделил их в отдельный фолдер. Три статьи из буклета (от продюсера шоу Пита Шапиро, фильм-мэйкера шоу Джастина Крейцманна — сына барабанщика Билла Крейцманна, и Билла Уолтона, самого большого Dead-Head фаната в прямом смысле этого слова :)) отсканировал и перевёл, зырьте ниже. Ничего особенного, в основном слюни, но впечатление от шоу передают

I wanted to feel that feeling again. That feeling that you can only get at a Grateful Dead show. An outdoor, summer stadium Grateful Dead show. A sun-filled afternoon on the lot followed by the boys laying down beautiful melodies under the stars. So, about a year ago I started reaching out to the “Core 4” guys about getting the gang together to do it one more time, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the birth of the band that has impacted countless lives. It wasn’t easy, but as they say, nothing really good is easy. There were twists and there were turns, there were ups and there were downs along the road. It was not a straight path ... but it was a path. We put on Grateful Dead shows. The vibe was there, the energy was there, the smiles were there, the music was there. I remain a bit surprised to this day how natural it all felt, at those final performances in Chicago. After all the build-up, after all the talk, when those first notes hit, everything fell into place. A lot of people put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes, in order to bring Fare Thee Well to life. But, equally important is the element that cannot be controlled, that you cannot even begin to anticipate but nonetheless hope to achieve. You need the thing that makes rainbows appear when it’s not raining. I am writing this at 30,000 feet, on a flight to Las Vegas, off to see a show at Brooklyn Bowl. Tonight, it’s Modest Mouse. Totally different vibe, scene and music than that of our beloved Grateful Dead, but I am still searching for more of the same magic that the Soldier Field shows juiced me up with. I am addicted to it. No band has ever given it to us like the boys, but the music of the Dead also encourages each of us to keep searching for the sound. Here’s to this set helping all of us out on our journey, as we all seek out more of those magic moments because those are the ones that we live for. Fare Thee Well. —Peter Shapiro 46 A.C. Like most things in the music world, it started with a phone call. Pete Shapiro was on the line and wanted to talk to me about filming Trixie Garcia to announce the Fare Thee Well shows. Of course, I’d heard rumblings about the guys doing something for their 50th anniversary, but nothing was set in stone. Apparently, now it was. So Pete, Trixie, and I met at TRI, where we quickly put something together. There was no script, not much planning, but Trixie gave a very emotional, heartfelt interview talking about the upcoming shows. I didn’t know it then but that kind of emotion would set the tone for the whole Fare Thee Well project. When the massive demand for tickets started to happen, it really drove home to me the love people had for this music and this band. It was truly touching to see. California shows were added, and the excitement was building. But first things first, I was appointed as creative director for all things video on the project. Shapiro and I discussed what should be on the screens for people to check out in the two hours preceding the show and the hour or more of set-break. It couldn’t just be the standard taped rock’n’roll music with a Fare Thee Well graphic. So I decided to design visual content using Grateful Dead home movies, photos, art, and a liquid light show to use as a bed. In essence, basically throw in everything I’ve ever worked with in all
the years I’ve been doing GD projects. Everything. But I knew it needed a killer soundtrack. So I called my buddy, Neal Casal, who did the Bob Weir movie soundtrack, because I knew he would do a great job. Plus, he is just crazy enough to accept such a mission. We needed to create a minimum of five hours of original content. I mean, this was for a Grateful Dead audience, so we couldn’t just show the exact same movies at every concert. Thankfully, Neal said yes, and that’s why we have Circles Around The Sun. The shows were amazing to me. A lot of work, but amazing. To see the guys in the band and the audience come together, and celebrate the music was very moving. I saw lots of tears over the course of the five shows — “happy tears,” as a Dead Head so accurately says in one of the documentary pieces I put together. To say everything came around full circle doesn’t even begin to capture what it was like for me. I got to bring my kids, Alivia and Lukas, to see the guys, so they could see what I saw when I was their age. Well, not exactly what I saw, but keep in mind that was back in the ’70s! However, watching my daughter dance to that music was really wonderful. Her only complaint: “I can’t see Grandpa very well.” By the time the last Chicago shows were happening, we аll felt that this had worked. The band was playing well, the Dead Heads were having a great time, and the video worked! Everything just felt right and had that buzz going because they were the last shows with the four guys together. And just when I thought that it couldn’t get any weirder, I got a text from my wife, Stephanie, when I was out in the video truck. Our new friend, Jenny Lewis, had just introduced her to Bill Murray at the soundboard. I hadn’t seen Bill since I was nine years old, and my dad asked him to watch out for me at the Closing Of Winterland while the band was onstage. Yep, full circle. So we all flew home after the last show, completely exhausted, but still having that buzz from the experience. I unpacked all the cases filled with hard drives from the shows — lots and lots of hard drives. My goal was to go through everything we shot from all the different crews and make the ultimate Fare Thee Well experience. Hopefully, I achieved that. I put together the broadcast video, the video used on the stadium screens, fans’ smartphone footage, and Jenny Lewis gave us some super cool shots she snapped. And then there’s the documentary crew I had, led by Pennebaker brothers whose dad’s works are a major influence on me. Everything is in there. For me, Fare Thee Well wasn’t just about the four surviving Grateful Dead guys; it wasn’t just about the music; it wasn’t just about the Dead Heads. It was all of it. It was about the emotion. MY LOVE IS REAL For me, it was love at first sight, i was 15, and had never been in love before. We had heard on the radio of the upcoming Grateful Dead show. It was 1967, somewhere in Southern California. We went, got in free somehow, and made our way to the front of the stage. We never left, and are still there today, 48 years later. I was immediately struck by how friendly everybody was, and how happy—about everything, mostly life. The music was creatively complex, imaginative, inspirational, exhilarating, challenging, experimental, fun, and never too loud. Remarkable, life-changing experiences always happened at the shows. From individual acts of kindness, generosity, and sharing—of everything; to the diverse interests, backgrounds, and stories of the crowd; to the chance encounters with people who cared. I immersed my entire being in all of it, and was particularly happy when I found myself dancing next to someone who
knew everything—what the name of the song was, what album it first appeared on, when and where the band first played it, and what they imagined it was all about. The morei went, the more fun I had. The closer I looked and got, the better it was. So I always made a point, as much as I could, to always be fresh and ready — for anything. I was so happy when, in January 2015, it was announced the the band’s “core four” — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — with more-than-able assistance from Trey Anastasio (of Phish), Jeff Chimenti, and Bruce Hornsby, would be playing three more shows in Chicago over the Independence Day weekend. I had six months to get ready. And was I ever. Anticipation and preparation have always been two of my favorite parts of life. The hope and dream of doing everything that I can to help make things turn out right. It’s the never-faded and now-unconditional love in those dreams that drive me to a better place. And with the Grateful Dead band members’ well-established, life-long commitment to quality, consistency, reliability, durability, credibility, integrity, authenticity, and relevancy, I knew they would do their job. I have always been most impressed and appreciative of how much of everything they put into all of it. What these guys have is definitely built to last. The rest was up to me. As the obstacles, hurdles, barriers, vagaries, and nonsense of life kept trying to derail my destiny of choice with the band on the 4th of July weekend in Chicago, at every rough and tumble spot, I kept repeating to myself, The shows are going to be awesome. This is what I live for. This is going to be fantastic. And it was. The reality and totality of everything turned out to be so much better than the dream. And it reminded me, one more time, why I keep coming back. All I ever want in life is more, and that is what the Grateful Dead’s music gives me. it's what keeps me going forward. We are the luckiest people in the history of the world—to be alive, here and now, in this time and space, with our teachers and tour guides—the incomparable musicians in the Grateful Dead. Equally important is the recorded history of our journey. As fortunate as we were to actually be there in Chicago, that privilege extends to what we are able to memorably reproduce on command because of what Rhino Records and their visionary president, Mark Pinkus, have been creating for us for so many years now. As the Grateful Dead and the band’s numerous offshoots have grown, evolved, and improved over the years, so has the band’s archival output. I’m a fan. And I want all the stuff that comes with creating the culture that defines and stimulates us. And that is why I am so ecstatic about and proud of what Mark and Rhino have come up with this time—Fare Thee Well, the complete Chicago experience. Like anything truly great, it is impossible to say in a few words the why, how and what of the shining brilliance. This newest box set has it all. Nineteen total discs. Nine CDs, plus three bonus discs of the music that was specially created by Neal Casal for the set breaks each night. Six discs of video, plus a bonus disc featuring two-and-a-half hours of unique, behind-the-scenes video content produced by Justin Kreutzmann. Original artwork created for the shows, and the always-dazzling packaging for which Rhino has continually set the standards. Plus, fabulous photos from the incomparable Jay Blakesberg. At the Chicago shows, on the north end of Soldier Field, there was a giant banner adorning the southern facade of the Field Museum. It proclaimed “EVERYTHING IS DEAD,” which appropriately tells both the story of our trip and this incredible new Rhino release. This project defines “complete.” If you were there, like me, you must have this documentary masterpiece of all that went down. If you weren’t there, it is required, to make your life full and whole. When you’re part of something truly special, you never want it to end, but it invariably does. And the first question that always comes up when it’s over is, OK, now what do we do? Thanks to this set, help is on the way, and the answer is simple: play it again. Fare Thee Well is truly the food that feeds all the people.
