The German conductor, organist and pianist, David Timm, was member and 1st Präfekt of the Thomanerchor Leipzig. From 1989 to 1995 he studied church music at the Leipziger Musikhochschule, with Professor Hannes Kästner, Professor Arvid Gast (Organ), Professor Volker Bräutigam (Improvisation), UMD Wolfgang Unger (Choir directing) and Professor Volker Rohde (Orchestra conducting). After successful exam conclusion in 1995, he completed a master-class study with Markus Toma in the subject piano, which he finished "with honour". A study stay in 1996-1997 led him to Professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Mozarteum Salzburg. From 1998 to 2002 David Timm taught choir and orchestra conducting at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik in Halle/Saale, and since 1998 he is a trainer for organ improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig.
An intensive concert activity as pianist and organist led him all around Germany, as well as to numerous European countries, the USA and later to Japan. Since July 1999 he is musical director of the Leipziger Vocalensemble in the follow-up of George Christoph Biller, in the same year he co-founded with Frank Nowicky LeipzigBigBand. As a conductor he co-operates with the Mendelssohn-Kammerorchester, Chursächsischen Philharmonie, Leipziger Barockorchester, and MDR-Kammerphilharmonie, and has appeared among other things at the Hollenser Häendelfestspielen, at the MDR-Musiksommer as well as with Bachfest Leipzig.
Beside broadcast and TV, he produced several CD recordings, which appeared under labels as Raum-Klang und EMI. A successful activity as arranger for the Mendelssohnorchester Leipzig (inner circle SYMPHONIC EXPRESSIONS), the LeipzigBigband (Bach BIG visions), Bobby McFerrin, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Mori Boine (Finale of the Sommenachts-musik 2002 of EUROARTS/ZDF, for which he received the European DVD Award 2003) round his work.
