Ken Clark is a funky organist whose sound is influenced a bit by Jimmy Smith (as every organist is) but whose modern style and dedication to funk give him a fairly original musical personality. Once one starts listening to this disc, there are no real surprises, and the individual songs do not stand out (not even "Duke Ellington Superstar") but the interplay between Clark, guitarist Mike Mele, and drummer Steve Chaggaris is strong (they play ensembles very well together) and the music (mostly Clark originals) certainly grooves. Soul-jazz fans will enjoy this set.
