Об альбоме (сборнике)
This four-foot-tall dynamo ruled Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom in the 1930s, regularly ousting competing swing bands that tried to grab his scepter. A powerful drummer, Webb hired similarly potent soloists and, of course, he gave Ella Fitzgerald her first big break. She’s the vocalist on eight numbers, including “A-Tisket, A-Tasket,” (the best-selling record of the 1930s), “Sing Me a Swing Song (And Let Me Dance),” “Taint What You Do (It’s the Way That Cha Do It),” “The Dipsy Doodle,” and “If You Can’t Sing It, You’ll Have to Swing It.” With songs from composers such at Fats Waller, the Gershwins, and Jelly Roll Morton, the twenty tracks also include “Stompin’ at the Savoy” (but of course!), “If Dreams Come True,” “King Porter Stomp,” “Liza,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” “Vote for Mr. Rhythm,” “What a Shuffle,” and “Keeping Out of Mischief Now.”
