Об альбоме
Not a genuine MPS release, but there are enough facts to justify it being included here. It's a private record from 1977 by an unknown band called Springbalance. Recorded at MPS studios and produced by the one and only Rolf Donner, who was responsible for mixing and recording most of the MPS milestones.
The band consists of five incredibly young looking gentlemen: Dietrich Jeske (guitars), Martin Henninger (electric piano), Michael Wessinger (tenor sax), Hans-Reinhold Ebers (bass) and the group's spokesman Peter Baumgärtner (drums). Sixth guy Andreas Rossmy guests on one track on cello. I tried to google those guys, but only the drummer Peter Baumgärtner has a big career in jazz (and somehow he forgets this album in his extensive discography).
Still it's a good album in spite of lacking previous experience. They play good kind of progg jazz fusion with psychedelic and funky influences here and there. Lots of electric fender piano and acoustic guitar, juicy basslines, excellent drumming, even some good saxophone licks - the overall feeling is much more mature and relaxed than one would expect from youngsters.
