“Slowdown Sundown” is “Barrelhouse Chuck” Goering’s newest release. Although it is his 6th C.D., it is the first on his own label, Viola Records. The production of “Slowdown Sundown” is filled with heartfelt soul, high energy, and low down greasy blues…with respect for Chuck’s fellow artists (featured on the C.D. are Otis “Smokey” Smothers, S. P. Leary, Willie Kent, Erwin Helfer and Billy Flynn, among other greats), love for those that inspired Chuck (Leroy Carr, “Muddy” Waters, “Sunnyland” Slim, Steve Winwood, to name a few), and most of all a devotion to Pure Chicago Blues…which speaks with raw emotion.
Chuck’s amazing versatility is evident on every track of “Slowdown Sundown.” His range as a solo artist and leader, to sideman is vast. Chuck demonstrates a natural confidence performing traditional duets with guitar and piano, as well as with B3 and Farfisa. He is equally dynamic playing with a full band, and both styles are represented in these recordings. He pays tribute to “Little Brother” Montgomery, Leroy Carr, “Sunnyland” Slim and “Pinetop” Perkins, but also puts forth several original compositions… a unique blend of “old school” blues and boogie woogie combining rich vocals and exciting instrumentals.
All of the recordings on “Slowdown Sundown” were compiled from sessions that took place from 1980 to 2005, with a hidden “bonus track” from the Barrelhouse “Blues Museum” Archives.
