    ۲    Blackpool's VHS Head made quite an impression with his     ۲   
    ۲    Skam debut 'Video Club' some months back. Now following    ۲   
    ۲    an acclaimed set for the Mary Anne Hobbs Radio 1 show      ۲   
    ۲    he presents a remarkable debut album, sounding like        ۲   
    ۲    something approaching James Ferraro or Daniel "OPN"        ۲   
    ۲    Lopatin's Games project, as edited by Gescom. Over the     ۲   
    ۲    twenty tracks he deploys a palette of atypical Skam        ۲   
    ۲    edits and icy spikes of digital glitch to a barrage of     ۲   
    ۲    samples - mostly idents, incidental music, and             ۲   
    ۲    f*ckknowswhat - presumably lifted from his collection      ۲   
    ۲    of video tapes. It's a vividly idiosyncratic world he's    ۲   
    ۲    created here, like being given access to his private       ۲   
    ۲    den built out of clamshell cases, which actually turns     ۲   
    ۲    out to be the portal into a videodrome arena of            ۲   
    ۲    schlocky drama and strangeness on the cusp of the          ۲   
    ۲    analog-to-digital transition which occurred across the     ۲   
    ۲    '80s. But that's just one side of his flex, the other      ۲   
    ۲    relies upon his razor sharp editing skills, hitting        ۲   
    ۲    that '86 vibe head-on with lethal electro/boogie edits     ۲   
    ۲    nodding to Arthur Baker and Mantronix as much as Aphex     ۲   
    ۲    Twin or Ae. Just check the chops on 'Twitch Of The         ۲   
    ۲    Nerve' or 'The Murder Cycles' and you could be in the      ۲   
    ۲    most twisted Blackpool nightclub that never existed.       ۲   
    ۲    It's blatantly the best thing Skam have released in        ۲   
    ۲    years and shouldn't disappoint anyone who knows what       ۲   
    ۲    that means.                                                ۲
