After having matured their music and compositions on stage for the past two years, this quintet, which is no doubt part of the new French jazz generation, led by the saxophonist Romain Cuoq and the guitarist Anthony Jambon, is finally revealing it’s first album “AWAKE”. This project evolved with the influence of artistes such as Brian Blade and his Fellowship, Ambrose Akinmusire or Aaron Parks, who have each developed the real notion of what is considered “a band “.
The ‘interplay’, or in other words, the quintet’s notion of ‘playing together’, and the colors brought out in their compositions, as well as the importance given to melodies and vocals (written or improvised), can only be compared to the paths traced by great musicians. The use of the electric and acoustic guitars, as well as the feel of certain “deep” grooves, can remind you of some rock but mostly folk influences.
Yet, above all, this quintet is a story of adventure and generosity, where the notion of sharing, of reaching out to each other and for each other with the desire of bringing together talent and sensitivity, is put forward. It is also all about the friendship between Anthony Jambon and Romain Cuoq, giving the strength and coherence their music. Supported by musicians with rich and creative personalities known as Emile Parisien, Florent Nisse and Nicolas Charlier, a unique entity amongst this quintet is delivered to the listener.
