Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker were instigators of the "West Coast Sound," born twenty years ago in a storm
of controversy. It was the most fertile period for both artists, and the approach to music which they fashioned
then has remained in their work to this day. The tracks in this album combine some of the earliest recordings
of the Mulligan-Baker quartet from the Fantasy catalog, Mulligan's pioneering work with his own big band in 1951
and material recorded for Prestige by Baker shortly after his return to America from Europe in 1964.
